Technical Projects

Project 1:

Objective:
To create a National Standard for Hair Care Products acceptable to the SA Market.

SANS 10393:2008, Hair care products - General requirements was published on 15 September 2008. This new Standard will be circulated with the CTFA Compendium updates in 2009

Project 2:

Objective:
To review international comments regarding SANS 6321:2006 (Draft) and to establish the local needs in this area.

The CTFA Micro Working Group has finalised work on SANS 6321:2006. Validation of the method has now been successfully completed and the name and scope of the document has been changed. It will be circulated as SANS 6321:200X CD – Determination of microbial inhibition of cosmetic soap bars, and liquid hand & body washes, in January 2009.

This standard will aid local companies in providing scientific substantiation for “germ reduction” claims thus strengthening self-regulation in South Africa. However it will not prevent companies from using other suitable methods for validation of such claims.

   Project 3:

Objective:

To bring SANS 1557:2005, Sunscreen Products, in line with globally agreed norms and to address the current SA Market.

The CTFA Sunscreen Working Group has completed the immense task of updating SANS 1557:2005. The new document, SANS 1557:200X, was circulated as a CD (Committee Draft) for industry comment on 18 November 2008. This new document is fully in line with the work done in the ISO arena on SPF in vivo testing, as well as being representative of a number of the EU recommendations.
